How Xtend® Iceless Packing System Works Harvested produce is field packed using the Xtend® Iceless Packaging System which includes specially designed cartons with vent holes, vent caps and MA/MH bulk bags.
As soon as possible, packed and palletized produce is transported to the cooling facility where it is cooled to its optimal storage temperature by forced air and/or vacuum cooling. StePac's Xcool post-harvest cooling management system is used to ensure that the produce is cooled quickly and cost effectively without risk of dehydration.
When cooling is complete, vent holes in cartons are capped so that Xtend's modified atmosphere can develop naturally inside the carton. Pallets are then moved to the cold storage or loaded into a pre-cooled refrigerated truck for transport to destination.
