  How Xsense™ Works

Pre-shipment
Affordable Xsense temperature and relative humidity RF (radio frequency) sensor tags are placed in selected cartons, either during initial packing in the field or at the packing house. One tag per pallet is the current recommendation.

Once tags are placed and activated, they begin recording data. Whenever the Xsense control unit is present, data is transmitted to the Xsense data center for collection and analysis.

Data is immediately processed to verify that atmospheric conditions in the transport/storage environment are within the preset, permissible range, which varies with fruit/vegetable type.

Xsense monitoring is unique because it monitors actual produce temperature as well as that of the surrounding environment.

In transit
Combining cellular and GPS technologies, Xsense tracks in real time the Xsense™ tagged pallets (one tag embedded in a carton at the center of each pallet) as they are transported in trucks (air and sea freight capabilities coming soon).

Xsense tags continuously transmit data to the Xsensedata center.

Real time alerts
When Xsense detects that temperature or relative humidity is out of the permissible range, an alert is sent to logistics managers and/or other interested parties via mobile phone, email or paging devices.

In most cases drivers can be notified in time to take corrective action, such as checking the refrigeration system or in severe cases, rerouting produce to closer destinations.

Xsense lets managers know not only where their produce is at all times but its residual quality as well.

Prediction modeling
Xsense real time, prediction modeling identifies when produce has been affected to the extent that its storage and shelf life have been compromised.

This enables distribution centers to practice FEFO (first expired, first out) management rather than the familiar FIFO (first in, first out) management.
