| | Xtend® Hot Water Spray 'n Brush
| | | Reducing health risks from spoilage microorganisms and human pathogens is a fundamental aspect of correct post-harvest handling. Conveying incoming produce through a hot water rinse with revolving brushes is a time tested sanitation method that greatly contributes to safer, healthier and more economical supply chain handling.
The Xtend® Hot Water Spray ‘n Brush, developed by researchers at the Agricultural Research Organization at The Volcani Center in Israel, is recommended for ALL users of Xtend® MA/MH packaging for—
- Melons
- Peppers
- Mango
- Papaya
| | | | | | | | | The Xtend® Hot Water Spray ‘n Brush system involves the following steps:
- Cold water spray wash
- Hot water spray ‘n brush wash (temp. and duration are produce specific)
- Dry in drying tunnel
- Sort, grade and pack as usual
| | | | | | | | | System design The size, shape and positioning of the multidirectional nozzles ensures that all fruit/vegetable surfaces receive adequate washing. Water pressure and size of water droplets are carefully adjusted to optimize the process, yet avoid produce damage.
Rotating brushes are designed to ensure a uniform wash and sanitization. Special attention is paid to the diameter of rollers and the distance between them, as well as to the density and size of the brushes’ bristles.
| | | | | | | | | By reducing the microbial load on the surface of the produce, the Xtend® Hot Water Spray ‘n Brush system helps packers combat fresh produce-related health risks and lessen fruit/vegetable spoilage in the supply chain.
